About the Event

REMEMBER THE SUFFRAGETTES”    SYNOPSIS

The struggle to get the right to vote for women is told through the eyes of a grandmother telling her granddaughters stories of significant events and people from the largest civil rights movement in the world. What are the roots of the women of the movement which lead them to their life passion of getting the vote for women?  These roots become part of the story.  Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton are seen discussing, writing, speaking and spreading the word about the right for women to vote being added to our constitution.  They form and lead significant women’s groups and guide new leaders like Elizabeth’s daughter Harriet to move toward this goal.  Sojourner Truth’s struggle for freedom from slavery to her prominent role as a spokesperson for the cause dramatically unfold.  Alice Paul along with her friend Lucy were influenced by their time in London where the fight for suffrage was less passive.  They bring this approach home to America and impose a new tactic of in your face protests which cause women to be jailed and mistreated.  This and other events ultimately get the hearts and minds of Americans behind the struggle. Suffrage becomes law. Now, 100 years later where do women stand?  The grandmother ignites an interest in women’s rights in her granddaughters by keeping the stories and struggles alive.  The children are our future.
